The subject of the - 2018-2019, History and Theory 7 course : Sides of Greek Modernism (School of Architecture, NTUA) -are the awards of architectural competitions of the last 100 years in Greece which were basically not implemented.
An alternative story of Greek architecture will be written on this website of a utopia. An experimental venture to construct a virtual reality of how our city, Athens, would look like if the buildings that were designed and never materialized were actually built, thus offering one view: how the buildings would look like in the city, concealing in a sense the second view: how would the city be if all those ghost buildings were alive, certainly affecting their neighbors. There the utopia seems to be double, since as in a domino, one idea brings the other and the changes do not leave the city untouched.
The history of architecture is not only written by the built ones but also by... the Non-built ones. Ideas, suggestions, studies, competitions influence the history and theory of architecture all the way.
Sketches, drawings, patterns, replicas of works that never get materialized often affect much more than buildings themselves.
Some "unbuilt buildings" can be much more important, strong and "real" than those that have been built. Projects of small or large size, known or unknown, constructions located in the between of our thought and imagination can be much more "real" than built structures around us.
